What "connecting a tool" means
Connecting Gmail, Notion, or Drive gives the assistant permission to use that app on your behalf — read a message, create a page, find a file. You authorize it once via the app's own secure sign-in; the AI never sees your password.
The safety question: who approves the action?
Reading is low-risk. Acting — sending an email, deleting something, posting a message — is not. A safe design asks before it acts:
The assistant proposes an action — "send this email to Sam."
You see exactly what it will do — the recipient, the content, the app.
You approve or reject — nothing happens until you say so.
How 1Chat handles it
Every tool the assistant wants to use surfaces an approval card before it runs. You can:
Approve the single action, or Reject it.
Choose "Always allow" for tools you trust, so routine, low-risk actions stop interrupting you — while risky ones still ask.
Revoke any "always allow" later from Settings.
You also control the overall stance: keep everything read-only, ask before writes, or let trusted tools run — per conversation.
Connect it, then just ask
Once a tool is connected, you don't invoke it with special syntax — you ask in plain words ("summarize my unread email and flag anything urgent"), and the assistant uses the right app, showing you the action before it takes it.
The goal isn't an AI that runs wild in your accounts. It's an assistant that can offer to act, clearly, with you holding the final click.
